SUMMARY:Gail Black's Wild Places - Art Show Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Oil painter Gail Black is a lifelong North Carolinian whose landscape work of local marshlands and wetlands is being featured in Wild Places  at Sunset River Gallery now through October 24. Gail’s painting style is representational but emphasizes a strong abstract structure with contrasting values and bolt paint application that results in paintings that spark excitement with her abstracted view of nature. The strongly textured work portrays a sense of a subject rather than its precise image. \nSpeaking about the wild places left in the Carolinas\, the artist says\, “These extraordinary and untouched areas are vanishing at an alarming pace. I want to share these places with the world before they have totally vanished and leave a visual record for the future. DESCRIPTION:The Coastal Land Trust is seeking volunteers to do landscaping and similar maintenance around the historic Reaves Chapel on Saturday\, December 5 from 9 am to 11 am. \nAs we approach completion of our restoration of this Historic African American Church\, we are in need of volunteers to help plant trees and do some general landscaping around the chapel. \nVolunteers should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. We also recommend long sleeves\, a hat\, sunscreen\, and bug spray. We will provide volunteers with snacks and water. Please bring a refillable water bottle if you have one. \nSign up coming soon! DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, December 19 for a Winter Bird Hike at Everett Creek Preserve in Onslow County from 7 am – 9 am. Enjoy strolling and birdwatching for about 1.5 miles on this beautiful preserve. Binoculars are Bring Your Own and we will have one Sibley field guide on hand. You are welcome to bring your own as well! We may see red-shouldered hawks\, warblers\, great blue herons\, cardinals\, and more! \nOnce the hike adjourns at 9 am\, the preserve becomes open for self-guided hiking as part of our monthly Open Hike Days until 3 pm.
