We are excited to announce that the Coastal Land Trust recently received grants from two prominent community groups – Cape Fear Garden Club and Landfall Foundation – both in support of our environmental education program.
The Coastal Land Trust offers numerous environmental education programs designed to foster a connection between local students and families and the local environment. Each year, we work with elementary schools in southeastern NC to offer classroom programs covering three core curricula: Longleaf pine habitat, carnivorous plants, and pollinators. Each program is designed to be fun and engaging for students and provide them with exposure to the fascinating aspects of the environment in eastern North Carolina. Funds from the Landfall Foundation will support programming in the Wilmington area this school year.
Support from the Cape Fear Garden Club will be used to purchase native plants seeds, seedlings, and potting soil for use during Pollinator Palooza. Held in April as part of the annual NC Science Festival, Pollinator Palooza is a week of educational programs focused on native pollinators, their role in the environment, and creating pollinator habitats. During the program, students decorate pots and then create and plant their own mix of native wildflowers from seeds. They will also take home a tomato or basil seedling to start their very own pollinator garden.
We are grateful for the support of the Cape Fear Garden Club and the Landfall Foundation.
