Two iconic sites in the Outer Banks – Island Farm on Roanoke Island and the land surrounding the beautiful Currituck Lighthouse – are now permanently protected. The Coastal Land Trust placed conservation easements on these highly developable, extremely valuable, widely popular, and visible venues in 2022.

The properties are owned by Outer Banks Conservationists (OBC), Inc., a small nonprofit organization based in Manteo. Island Farm and the Currituck Lighthouse collectively host approximately 85,000 visitors each year.  www.obcinc.org

OBC has worked strategically and diligently for more than 40 years to purchase and consolidate multiple parcels of land to expand the Currituck Beach Lighthouse compound and to create and historically renovate Island Farm. Together, OBC and the Coastal Land Trust have successfully protected these historic sites to benefit current visitors and generations of future visitors.

The Outer Banks Conservationists wanted to be certain that the renovated sites would always be legally protected from the threat of development. Coastal Land Trust is delighted to partner with OBC to further their work and ours.
