Project Description
Gales Creek Preserve at Camp Sam Hatcher
Gales Creek Preserve at Camp Sam Hatcher is a 254.5-acre nature preserve along Gales Creek in Carteret County. This beautiful property has longleaf pine sandhills and savanna habitat with rare plants and animals as residents. Fortunately the camp’s neighboring properties are protected by easements as well. On one side is the Croatan National Forest, managed by the US Forest Service. On the other side are 20 acres of land used by the East Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America with a Conservation Easement through the Coastal Land Trust.
Camp Sam Hatcher is a wonderful space to hold environmental education and volunteer opportunities where we utilize the open spaces, camp grounds, and the beautiful area that is Camp Sam Hatcher. This property is open by appointment only.
