We’re celebrating the Lands we/you LOVE all month long and want to share with you some of our favorite conserved places you can explore!

BRUNSWICK NATURE PARK:
Whether you love to paddle, hike, or ride a mountain bike, Brunswick Nature Park in Brunswick County aims to please. There are even places to picnic after you’ve worked up an appetite!

WACCAMAW STATE PARK:
Another Land we LOVE where you can visit, the Coastal Land Trust is proud to have contributed almost 200 acres to Waccamaw State Park in 2017. We love exploring this unique Carolina Bay landscape and love all the activities you can do at the park. From hiking, fishing, and paddling to picnicking, camping, and birdwatching, there’s truly something for everyone here!

Lake Waccamaw State Park sits on the shores of the largest Carolina bay – and there are 500,000 of these mysterious craters along the Atlantic seaboard!

GAMELANDS:
Adding land to state game lands is another aspect of our Lands We LOVE that connect people to nature. Conservation partners North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission share a few benefits to protecting gamelands:

  • The primary purpose is the conservation of North Carolina wildlife species and the provision of public hunting, trapping and fishing opportunities
  • Game lands are important players in the preservation of rare, threatened and endangered species
  • Prescribed burning and early successional habitat management allow for healthy habitats for thriving wildlife

When it is not hunting season, many of these lands are hiking-friendly. ALWAYS double check the hunting season dates for your area.

Recently, the Coastal Land Trust added almost 1,200 acres to the Chowan Swamp Game Lands! Learn more here

OUTER BANKS CONSERVATIONISTS:
In addition to celebrating the Lands We LOVE this month, we can’t help but recognize a major theme throughout these conservation projects. And that is….our amazing partnerships! We had the honor to work with Outer Banks Conservationists in 2022 and help protect the land surrounding the Currituck Lighthouse in Corolla and Island Farm in Manteo. The lighthouse will open up for visitors starting March 18th and Island Farm will open March 25th – start planning your trips now!
