Gales Creek Preserve at Camp Sam Hatcher includes 254.5 acres of highly valuable and unique plant life along Gales Creek in Carteret County. This exceptional property hosts longleaf pine sandhills and savanna habitat with rare plants and animals as residents. Fortunately the camp’s neighboring properties are protected by easements as well. On one side is the Croatan National Forest which is managed by the US Forest Service, and on the other side is a 20 acre piece of land used by the East Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America and has a Conservation Easement on the land through the Coastal Land Trust. Our Stewardship Team plans on working with both the Boy Scouts and the US Forest Service on sister projects to further protect the land. Camp Sam Hatcher has great potential for hosting educational events where we can utilize the open spaces, camp grounds, and the beautiful area that is Camp Sam Hatcher. This property is open by appointment only.
